CONTINENT OF CONTRASTS

Qantas is again flying from London via Singapore to Australia. Although the partnership with Emirates has been extended, more travellers prefer the Asian stopover and so have more route options. Qantas-CEO Alan Joyce said: "We would like to have a direct route to Frankfurt again to get more German visitors!". Germans are spending a lot of money in Autralia, so even a direct flight Perth-Frankfurt is an option.

In 2017 Australia received a record 8.5 Mill international visitors, an increase of 9% compared with 15/16. Germany is in place 11 with more than 200.000 visitors, an increase of 8%.

"Sculpture by the Sea" in Sydney is visited by more than half a million people who enjoy this now famous outdoor exhibition (18.Oct-4.Nov 2018) while wandering over the cliffs between Bondi Beach and Tamarama.

Vivid Sydney, a festival of light, music and ideas,was on again in June. Vivid transforms the city into a wonderland of 'light art' sculptures, innovative light installations and grand-scale projections.

Backpackers on "Work and Travel" visas are now taxed 15 per cent on any earnings, which has lead to a decrease of available working travellers. Also young Austrian travellers can apply from now.

The internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Munro is hosting the biggest "Field of Light" installation at Uluru in the Northern Territory. This show has been extended due to its popularity. Munro has installed more than 50,000 LED solar-powered light stems around the "Rock".

Please note: The Uluru climb will be closed from October 2019 for cultural reasons.

A world-leading $ 42 Mill project in far north Queensland is combining big battery storage and solar power.
